Live Science article

Jill Parmer, another unschooling Mom, and myself were interviewed for this online publication.

They're talking about the learning that takes place within online role-playing games. I'm hoping it can lead to people seeing how interest led learning is a good thing.

I read the article, very nice. My child being one of those kids that learned how to read solely by playing online games, I really wanted to comment but didn't want to sign up so I didn't. One of the comments that was made was that kids need to learn to do things they don't want to do but "have to" do - like when they "have to" work. It amazes me that adults don't think this through; last time I checked it wasn't illegal to not work, no one is FORCING anyone to work, it is a CHOICE! Usually motivated by money, kids, needs, wants, passion, or some other reason.

Thanks guys for the comments. Regarding the other comments.. ;) these people fail to see that playing video games can lead to a job. Hello....let's see, the last time I looked the video game industry had earnings of.. uh, a mere 18 Billion.. jeesh. No work available there *cough, cough*

Yeah, about the no money there, cough, cough. I believe Kirby Dodd works in Austin at Blizzard Ent. (WoW). That's pretty cool, in my book!
