Travel Angst

So I'm trying to get myself pumped up to travel. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing new places and traveling, but the work getting there.. the prep, always seems to overwhelm me for a bit. I even sometimes feel like staying home is a good alternative to the research and work it takes before visiting a new place; and just the unknown-- new area, new highways (small town girl in a big city ! eek...)

But then I see this, as I'm looking into the forecast for southern CA next week.

Our weather today:

Sunday morning lows will range from just below zero in Des Moines and Chicago to as much as 25 below zero in parts of North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Dangerously low wind chills by early Sunday will range from minus 25 in central Iowa and northern Illinois to near minus 50 in northern Minnesota.

We're the northern Minnesota part if ya didn't know ... and yes, it does say MINUS 50. It is only the wind chill but still... And what does southern CA have in store for us? Let's just say... today?

Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High 74F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

and tomorrow?

Sunny skies. High 74F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

So... to choosing,

Thanks!

Minus 50 with wind chill?!!! Yikes. I know what you mean about gearing up for a trip (sometimes so exhausting) but yes, it will be worth it. It is great that you are moving away soon from so much cold.

I wish we could be there with you. In CA, not in minus 50 MN!!!!!! ;-)

Brrr! We've been to minus 20 this winter, and I thought that was cold! :)

Bret grew up in Southern CA, so we go there periodically...we loved the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach (not as much as the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but still cool) and the California Science Center.

If you're meat eaters, you gotta check out In N Out Burgers -- delish!

I like tripadvisor for other ideas...

Enjoy the warmth (and good luck with the packing/prep...know what you mean!)

Thanks everyone for the warm wishes :D

And Carolyn thank you for the suggestions, I had the Aquarium written down to check out and I added the Burger joint. Most of us are meat eaters, I go back and forth :)

Yes, you *do* want In and Out!! Fresh, never frozen (unlike MN cows), beef & FRESH fries made from whole taters, right there :)
Even though I don't find them the best burgers in the universe, they're definitely the freshest :) and it's a SoCal tradition. The patties are thin, so go for the double :) (then there's the bumperstickers, commonly altered to read "In and Out URGE" hee hee hee)
If you really want an artery stopping treat, however, have some Tommy Burger! I love their chili-cheese fries ♥
Both places will ask if your order is for "in the car?" meaning they will wrap the food in a way that makes eating in the car easier :)

Your also staying near the ferry line (in OC), if you're at all interested in checking out Catalina Island :)

You lucky, lucky duck. Have a fabulous trip. Is that a new header? I LOVE it.

Um, I may be missing something BUT... why would anyone even think about leaving THE COMPOUND while anywhere near Disneyland???!!!!!??? I go there just to stalk Goofy all day.

We LOVED going to Disneyland when we lived in OC (it was just about the only thing we loved there!), but we also loved going to Dragon Tree on Wednesday afternoons - Pam Sorooshian's unschooling park day in Long Beach.

Yep, Mrs G, that is a new header. It's my now frozen screened porch.

No worries Craig, we will be at Disneyland, but just a day ;) I'll give Goofy a stalking for you.

And, unfortunately we aren't in the LA area on a Wednesday or we'd crash the Dragon Tree group. We do get to see Pam though :)
